What's the difference between aircraft cable and wire rope? In general, Aircraft Cable is 3/8 of an inch and smaller and in 7x7 and 7x19 constructions. Their wire core is usually constructed to be the same as the outer strands. Wire rope tends to be sizes larger than 3/8 of an inch and in different constructions than aircraft cable, common ones being 6x19, 6x25, and 6x36. They can have many different types of cores of varying configurations and materials. With that being said sometimes a manufacturer will have aircraft cable that is larger than 3/8 of an inch and wire rope smaller than that. To make sure you find the right product, always purchase based on the specifications of each item instead of whether it's called aircraft cable or wire rope.
